FRIDAYS:  Gordon’s Summer Concerts

Jambo Hapa will be serving up the Afro-Caribe fare EVERY FRIDAY at the Gordon’s Summer Concert Series at Ashley Pond* in Los Alamos.

June 24:  Water is Life Festival

The Water is Life Festival (Agua es la Vida) celebrates our Water and our communities’ relationship to Water.  Here in New Mexico we recognize that “water is life” and out of that truth we bring community together to experience performance, art, education, and stories from our personal and collective histories that remind us to take care of water for our community today and for our children’s future.

FREE and open to people of all ages and abilities. Come and enjoy the solstice time evening with your friends, families, and neighbors!

LOCATION:  Santa Fe Botanical Garden at 715 Camino Lejo

July 1 and 2: Santa Fe Wine Festival

Join Jambo Hapa at the 24th Annual Santa Fe Wine Festival at Rancho de los Golondrinas.  Saturday and Sunday, July 1 and 2 from Noon – 6 pm each day.

July 8: Ian Moore Band

Since his arrival as a solo artist in 1993 and his self-titled debut on Capricorn Records, Texas music star Ian Moore has been on a journey of perpetual forward motion and constant change. That record included the hits “Satisfied” and “Blue Sky,” and even featured the track “Harlem,” which was made into a music video by rap icon Ice Cube.

Moore’s new Strange Days album was birthed by Ian channeling all of the influences from his childhood, soul music and the blues. All the while, carrying forward the hard-earned life lessons acquired on said journey—that allow him to infuse these songs with a depth that only comes from many years and countless miles. Moore’s ability to straddle genres like a Neil Young or a Jack White is obvious.

With local musician Alex Maryol opening.  Music begins at 7 pm for this FREE concert in the Santa Fe Railyard. Jambo Hapa will begin serving around 6:00 or so.

 

 


July 22: Las Hacheros

Brooklyn’s Los Hacheros, modern-day torchbearers of the Golden Age of Latin music, revives folkloric styles like son montuno, guaracha and salsa, and often combine them with Bomba, a fiery rhythm from the mountains of Puerto Rico. “Los Hacheros has the magic of group improvisation,” says bassist William Ash.  “We play in a style that is swing oriented and emphasizes the Cuban clave like great ones of old: Arsenio, Reve, Ritmo…”

A band of only 5 musicians, Los Hacheros can sound like a conjunto of 12. Eddie Venegas (Marc Anthony, Orquestra Broadway), who plays violin and sings chorus, improvises mambos on the trombone, Itai Kriss (Edmar Castaneda, Grupo Latin Vibe) sings, plays flute, campana, and guiro, while Papote Jimenez is in charge of lead vocals, soulful soneos (improvised verses) and congas. William Ash (Alfredo de la Fe, Brenda K Starr) holds down the tumbaos on baby bass while Jacob Plasse plays the tres

Music begins at 7 pm for this FREE concert in the Santa Fe Railyard. Jambo Hapa will begin serving around 6:00 or so.

 


Jambo CookbookJuly 23: A Talk & Tasting with Chef Ahmed

Chef Ahmed will talk a bit about his cookbook, “The Jambo Cafe Cookbook: Recipes and Remembrances of My Journey from Africa to America” and serve some treats from the book.  Followed by a book signing.  

6:00 – 7:30 pm at Collected Works Bookstore located at 202 Galisteo Street in downtown Santa Fe.

August 12: Santa Fe Salutes David Bowie

Santa Fe Salutes David Bowie presents a diverse array of some of Santa Fe’s finest musicians performing their favorite Bowie songs. This three-hour show will feature a house band of Santa Fe music scene stalwarts backing a steady stream of special guests. This timely tribute will bring together a wide range of the city’s best creative talents to honor the legacy of the late, great, David Bowie.

August 19:  Mac & Cheese Fest

At the Balloon Fiesta Museum lawn in ABQ from 2-6 pm.  Enjoy Chef Ahmed and lots of other chefs competing for the “Best in Show” for their take on our fave: Mac & Cheese.  Fun!
